New Year

Design Work

I recently took the role as Head of Design at my University Union. This involved designing this year’s Lent Term card- 44 pages covering this terms Speakers, Debates, ‘Ents’ and other events taking place over the term. I’d not really done any design work on this scale before, including the final edits the whole project took about a week working on and off. There are a couple of pages presented here, from the debate pages mainly.

I also designed posters to coordinate with the Term card. I quite like the idea of using something like the ‘keep calm and carry on’ format for these (and what I could for the Term card). They’re clean and smart designs but the somewhat imperial style I felt was fitting for the nature of Cambridge Union.

Cambridge Pieces

Attempting to update this blog! I thought I’d post a couple of the illustrations I did for things in Cambridge last term. The ‘When I grow up’ piece was a submission for a small exhibition of the same title. All pieces were given anonymously along with text and photos- the organiser sent a pack around with questions ect. Figured I could post it since the event has been and gone.

This is actually a design for a booklet going out this term. I had to make a design to be used on the front and the back of ‘Pembroke Street’- people can submit articles and other writings to be printed in it and it’s posted to the members of my college. This image is very similar to one I did for a friend of mine. I find it’s the easiest way to show Pembroke, this more cartoony style saves copying all the college architecture!

Wispy Pooed On My Carpet

Cards by Alice

Last year I started producing and selling small handmade cards. I was selling batches from the cafe I worked in as well as making personalised designs to order. The images were painted in either Acrylic or Watercolour and finished with India ink. This year I may try selling them in shop or gallery in town- I managed to sell way more than I expected, especially given they were only on sale in the cafe!

Print Trials

Some of my first trials with Lino

Self Portrait Lino

The image below is a faulty photograph of one of the prints however,
I felt the effect complimented the design and could be seen to add to the final work.
